Nancee Cain is the author of the amazing new release Saving Evangeline. I had the privilege of asking her a few questions today, via email, and I would like to share my 'interview' with you.

Tell us a little about yourself and your background

I consider myself to be a reader first, author second. I work a full-time job as a nurse in the field of addiction. Like hospice nursing, I think you have to have a “calling” for this type of nursing. I’ve worked in it for over fifteen years.

What are your ambitions for writing?

I have all of these characters in my head begging to have their stories told. And yes, they talk to me. Sometimes, we even argue. For example, I thought Saving Evangeline was going one way, Remi and Evie informed me otherwise and refused to cooperate until they got their way.

Do you have any authors that inspire you? If so, who and why?

Growing up in the South (USA) Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird was (and is) my all time favourite book. I think that’s why all of my stories take place in the South, even my paranormal story starts there. It’s what I know. In the romance genre, as a teenager, I skipped Barbara Cartland and went straight to Kathleen Woodiwiss. When I read Debra Anastasia’s Poughkeepsie and Seraphim series, something clicked. I became a woman on a mission to meet her and tell her how much I loved her crazy, beautiful stories about marginalised people finding love.

Your first book is Saving Evangeline, can you give us an insight into Evangeline and Remi?

I work with broken people who struggle with addiction. Most feel shame and have very low self esteems. Many have either thought about suicide or tried it. It’s an incredibly serious issue that people don’t like to talk about. It makes them uncomfortable. But our discomfort is minimal compared to the pain these people suffer. However, I also like to look at life with a sense of humour. So I combined Evangeline’s pain with Remi’s irreverent outlook on life to bring, what I hope, is a story about forgiveness and learning to live life to the fullest.

Are you currently working on anything new?

Yes!

What is it about?

Im currently working on Raphael’s (Rafe) story. Poor Rafe is the angel that believes in following the rules and getting things done. He’s met his match with headstrong Jo.

If you could make Saving Evangeline into a movie, who would you like to see play the main characters?

I’m not sure if he acts, but I pictured Remiel as the model Christian Jorgensen and Evangeline as Odette Anable. I have a Saving Evangeline story board on Pinterest.

Have you always wanted to be a writer?

I wrote a story entitled Amanda Panda and illustrated it when I was in grade school, but my sister was actually the writer in the family. She majored in journalism.

How do you research your subject matter?

I work in mental health so I talked to co-workers that have a lot of experience in the field. The nice thing about writing paranormal, I have some creative license.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

I think I must have seen a commercial for the movie It’s a Wonderful Life. Saving Evangeline was actually a dreamI had one night. Or it may have been the Mexican food I ate for dinner that night…

What is the easiest thing about writing?

Dialogue. It’s my favourite part of writing.

What is the hardest thing about writing?

Staying off of social media to write!

How do you think your book has been perceived so far and are you happy with the response to your book?

I’m overwhelmed and humbled by the response. I was afraid my mom would be the only person who would read it! I didn’t expect it to garner so many, “it made me cry in places” response. I’m really excited people are giving it a chance, despite the subject matter.

How can readers find you and your work?

Thank you so much Nancee for answering my questions. I loved your book and I’m not ashamed to admit, that I cried in certain parts. It really is a beautiful story.

Thank you for having me! Can I brag I was your first? Lol

Nancee

Romance with a serrated edge.
